FALLEN
About
Sam Joseph Studio, FALLEN, short film inspired by the Killed Women’s, Fallen Women’s Campaign written, directed and produced by Sam Joseph.
FALLEN, a short film, confronts the devastating truth of the fatal violence against
women through dance and performance. Inspired by the vital work and advocacy of
Killed Women, Fallen Women’s campaign which ‘calls for the deaths of women who
have fallen from a height to be reviewed by police to identify whether domestic
abuse may have been a feature’.
FALLEN through dance and performance and choreographed by artists Elizabeth Roberts and Annie Edwards, dares to reclaim the narrative around domestic violence and hidden homicide, not through passive retelling and representation of victim stereotyping often seen in the media and cinema, but through a fierce invocation of strength, defiance, and the power of women’s resilience. It is a story of reckoning, of power, stolen and reclaimed and of the cost of silence and inaction by governments and their policies.
Written, directed and produced by Sam Joseph, performance and choreography by
Elizabeth Roberts and Annie Edwards, cinematography by Zoran Veljkovic, original music score by Calvin Calica, costume design by Stella Lam, editing by Antonio Ribeiro, video projection by Zac Miller-Waugh, camera assistant by Johanna Tyres, studio manager by Rodrigo Canas, and studio technician by Gill Dibben. Filmed at Technical Studios at the Royal College of Art, Battersea, London.
